The Smithsonite by the Sea brooch

I made a brooch for my stepmum in law using a piece of Smithsonite. I had tried and failed to bezel set the stone.
I decided to try using cork clay which burns off in the kiln to build around.
I was trying to make it so the stone looked like it was in the sea held by seaweed.

The brooch in the clay stage

After firing the top prong was weak and looked a bit rubbish so it came off! I then added the Smithsonite stone. I love how it looks like a little beach.

I added a starfish shape at the top and patinaed the piece to make the detail stand out.
Mrs Smithson who lives by the Sea loves it!
